Dato’ Professor Dr Tan Hui-Meng’s career has taken him through 24 years of study, research, teaching and administration in Medicine following his graduation with an MBBS from the University of Malaya in 1980.


He was conferred a fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians (Glasgow) in 1985. Further fellowships in Endourology from the USA and in Germany quickly followed suit in 1987 and 1988 respectively.


Dato’ Professor Dr Tan Hui-Meng was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Dato’ Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (DSSA) by HRH The Sultan of Selangor, Malaysia in 1996 and served as Urologist to His Royal Highness. The King of Malaysia from 1999 to 2001 and currently dedicates his time to his patients as a Consultant Urologist at the Subang Jaya Medical Center and Megah Medical Specialist Centre. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Medical Faculty, University of Malaya.


Having over two decades of innovatively developing medical practice in the field of Urology, Dato’ Professor Dr Tan Hui-Meng has long been fascinated with emerging technologies for Malaysians. He is a pioneer in the use of Extracoporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy, Percutaneous Surgery, Urethral Implants, Penile Prosthesis and Incontinence Implants. Dato’ Professor Tan is also the leader researches and studies in the field of Urolithiasis, Andrology and Men’s Health, which extends into prostatic diseases, erectile dysfunction and hormonal changes in the aging male.


Dato’ Professor Dr Tan Hui-Meng is a member of 18 learned societies and is currently the President of the Malaysian Society of Andrology and The Study of the Aging Male, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Council for the Study of the Aging Male and the Malaysian Erectile Dysfunction advisory Council and Training. He is also the Vice-President of The Asian Society of Endourology, a society dedicated to upgrading the skills of endourology in Asia. He is a scientific committee member of the WHO panel for consultations in Sexual and Erectile Dysfunction and was also the President of the 6th Biennial Asia Pacific Society of Impotence Research Meeting and also for the 1st Asian International Society for the Study of the Aging Male.


Dato’ Professor Tan has presented 98 papers in all at local, international and world Conferences. He was invited to present his pioneering work and extensive work on percutaneous surgery for staghorn stone in the 16th World Congress of Endourology. His lecture paper for the 4th Asian Congress of Urology held in Singapore on PCNL Research won best paper in Asia.


Dato’ Professor Dr Tan Hui-Meng is published in 158 peer-reviewed journals and books, including 7 books on Erectile Dysfunction and Men’s Health. He sits on the editorial boards of 9 journals including the International Journal of Impotence Research, Journal of Sexual Dysfunction, Journal of Sexual and Reproductive Medicine and the Asian Journal of Andrology. Dato’ Professor Dr Tan Hui-Meng is the inaugural editor-in-chief of Men’s Health, an international peer reviewed journal focusing on medical perspective in Men’s Health and the Aging Male. In the community level, Dato’ Professor Tan is the chairman for the Panel on Aging and Health, which contribute educational articles fortnightly to the ‘Age Well’ column in The Star newspaper.
